Direct Numerical Control - Direct Numerical Control, also known as Distributed Numerical Control, (both DNC) is a common manufacturing term for networking CNC machine tools. On some CNC machine controllers, the available memory is too small to contain the machining program (for example machining complex surfaces), so in this case the program is stored in a separate computer and sent Direct to the machine, one block at a time.
CNC - The abbreviation CNC stands for Computer(ized) Numerical(ly) Control(led), and refers specifically to the computer control of machine tools for the purpose of (repeatedly) manufacturing complex parts in metal as well as other materials, using a program written in a notation conforming to the EIA-274-D standard and commonly called G-code.
Metal spinning - Metal Spinning is a process by which circles of metal are shaped over mandrels (also called forms) while mounted on a spinning lathe by the application of levered force with various tools. It is performed rotating at high speeds on a manual spinning lathe or performed by CNC controlled automated spinning machines.
Control Car Remote Control Locomotive - A Control Car Remote Control Locomotive (CCRCL) is an old diesel locomotive with the traction motors and fuel tank removed, cab windows plated over, and remote control equipment installed. It is coupled to a locomotive (or a consist of locomotives) which lack remote control equipment; it is set to be the lead locomotive in command of the others, controlling them through their multiple unit control connections.

Lathe This article is about a (usually) horizontal axis so that when abrasive or cutting tools are applied to the block, it can be moved horizontally to accommodate varying material lengths. The next four chapters of the book explain concepts of NC part programming, and the final section features advanced programming concepts and principles and moves on to tooling. All rights reserved. Readers who have acquired some conventional machining experience, yet have little or no formal academic training, will find this how-to and reference book to be particularly well-suited to their needs. This is in contrast to a woodworking lathe where most tools are hand held. Lathe This article is about a (usually) horizontal axis so that when abrasive or cutting tools are hand held.
